These are well established live peyote cactus. Peyote is a small, spineless cactus.
Native to texas and mexico central, peyote is found primarily in the Chihuahuan desert and in the states of Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosi among scrub, especially where there is limestone.
Peyote, and its closely related cousins san pedro and peruvian torch, contain the psychoactive alkaloid "Mescaline". It is currently used world wide as an entheogen, and supplement to various practices including meditation and psychonautics. The native americans would refer to peyote as the gateway to heaven, as many describe seeing their god within these high mystical states. Furthermore the entities which have been described play resemblance to the entities encountered on many DMT (Dimethyltryptamine) trips.
